2009 Kids Weather Survival Week Short Essay Contest
Rules & Guidelines
Entries are to be based on Kids Weather Survival Week, wherein the participating student is to respond to the following scenario:
Tell Us Your Story of Survival ~ Imagine that a devastating natural disaster has occurred in your community. There is damage to your home and to the homes in your neighborhood and there may be injuries. Tell us your story of how having a plan in place beforehand helped you, your family, and your pets survive the disaster.
- Only one entry per school
- Entry may only be submitted by the principal of the school
- Essay must be 500 words or less
- All entries will only be accepted online and will require the following information for successful submission:
- Student’s Name
- Home Phone Number
- Grade Level (9-12)
- School Name
- County
- Principal’s Name
- Teacher/Librarian/Home School Educator’s Name
- Teacher/Librarian/Home School Educator’s E-mail and Phone Number
- Word Count
All entries must be electronically submitted to the Just Read, Florida! Website (http://data.fldoe.org/HWAW/) no later than 11:59 p.m. EST, Tuesday, January 20, 2009.
Prizes
Winning Students
- An Overall Grand Prize Statewide Winner from one of the EM areas listed below will receive Walt Disney World theme park annual passes for a family up to 4 and one NOAA “All-Hazards” All-Hazards Weather Radio
- The Second Place Winner from one of the EM areas listed below will receive Walt Disney World three day tickets with the park hopper option for a family up to 4 and one NOAA “All-Hazards” Radio
- The Third Place Winner from one of the EM areas listed below will receive Walt Disney World one day tickets with park hopper option for a family up to 4 and one NOAA “All-Hazards” Radio
- Winning students in each of the remaining four EM Areas listed below will receive a Walt Disney World one day single theme park ticket and one NOAA “All-Hazards” All-Hazards Weather Radio
Winning Student’s Teacher
- The teacher of the student who is the Overall Grand Prize Statewide Winner will receive $250 and one NOAA All-Hazards Weather Radio
- The respective teacher to each of the winning students in each of the remaining six EM Areas listed below will receive $100 and a NOAA All-Hazards Weather Radio
